Rahul Dev, a spirited member of the university's Volleyball team, embodies the essence of perseverance. To him, it's the unwavering commitment and effort invested in his passion for sports. Through the lens of sportsmanship, Rahul recognizes perseverance as the driving force behind his personal growth and team success. His journey from balancing academics and sports to representing IIT Gandhinagar at Inter IIT sports competitions is a testament to his dedication and perseverance.

In another corner of the campus, we meet individuals like Sanya, who reflect on moments when perseverance seemed elusive. For her, perseverance is the will and determination to excel in both academics and sports, a balance she once struggled to achieve. Sanya's candid reflection on her decision to prioritize studies over basketball training highlights the importance of perseverance in every aspect of life.

As we delve deeper into the lives of these students, their stories illuminate the essence of perseverance in the pursuit of excellence. Whether on the court or in the classroom, the spirit of perseverance thrives at IIT Gandhinagar, shaping future leaders and inspiring others to push beyond their limits.

Rahul Dev's story on Perseverance[edit | edit source]

Rahul Dev, a passionate volleyball player from IIT Gandhinagar

What I understand from perseverance is that it is the continuous effort that we put into a task that is very crucial for us to overcome all the difficulties in the path. I am a sportsman. I play volleyball for IIT Gandhinagar’s Volleyball team. We all know that perseverance is a must for every sportsperson. Without the drive to win, a sportsperson cannot reach his/her full potential. I have gone to two Inter IIT sports competitions by now. I have seen prominent improvement in my performance from the first day I joined the team. It wouldn't have been possible without perseverance. Regularly attending practice sessions, managing academics and sports side-by-side, keeping health in check, maintaining a proper diet, etc. All this was possible due to my continuous efforts. Not only me but due to my whole team's constant efforts, we have reached a certain level of preparation that we can give tough competition to all of our competitors. In my initial semesters, I was focused more on sports than academics. As I needed more perseverance there, I lagged behind my peers, and my academic performance dropped. Thus, showing perseverance in all essential tasks is crucial for the individual as it helps a lot on the way.

From what I understand, perseverance is the will and determination to put continued effort towards your goal. There was a time in my life when I felt I lacked this quality. Not even a year ago, I decided to give up inter-IIT basketball training to focus on my studies. However, reflecting back, I should’ve persevered to give my best in both because I think I could’ve done it. Sometimes, I hold this as a regret for how my college experience could’ve been better.

Yash Kokane's story on Innovativeness and Taking Initiative[edit | edit source]

Student Senator Yash Kokane from IIT Gandhinagar

Innovativeness is the skill of creating new things or finding innovation in existing things. It is a difficult characteristic to incorporate into ourselves. Being an engineering student, we are highly encouraged to bring innovation to existing technologies. Thus, there is always a subconscious thought going around in the mind that is always indulged in innovativeness. There are no significant instances in my life where I used this skill, as it is a rare phenomenon. Also, people don’t always warmly welcome changes in existing things. Many innovative ideas get buried due to a lack of support from consumers. Thus, many times, people are also afraid to bring innovation to light. Hence, we need to normalize innovativeness in our daily life for continuous growth of the society.

A commitment to perfection and following of moral principles even in the absence of supervision marks conscientiousness. It includes characteristics like attention to detail, good judgment, and reasoning. In my daily life, I often come across friends who use cheating in order to get better grades, especially around test periods. I strongly reject such shortcuts, even in front of their support and assurances that I won't be caught by teachers. Rather, I continue to be committed to the values of honesty and depend only on my own abilities. This constant commitment to moral behavior shows conscientiousness and leads me away from immoral options that are just motivated by the desire for academic success.

Perseverance is a must at IIT Gandhinagar, especially with the workload we get. How do you guys stay motivated when things get tough?
-- Wikitech (talk) 10:36, 23 April 2024 (UTC)

I think it's all about mindset. When I feel overwhelmed, I remind myself why I'm here and what I want to achieve. It helps me stay focused and keep pushing forward.
